A NEW PROBLEM

But then she noticed changes in Deepak and got to know that he started talking and chatting to his colleague on the phone. She read all the chats and he was flirting with her.
Her name was Sadhana. She was a divorcee. No kids, no father, no brother. She befriended with many others in the office and used them to do some of her jobs. Kusum confronted Deepak and asked him to stop it at once as she doesn't like it and will never approve such kind of behaviour.
But nothing changed, her opinions don't matter to him. She was a powerless woman for him, who can't do anything. He started deleting his chats daily. He even saved her contact number with a different name (a boy's name) on his phone. He continued doing it and Kusum opposing it.
She even talked to Sadhana and asked her to stay out of it. But instead, she insisted on being her friend. And Deepak supported her. Kusum refused to do any of this. She was getting depressed day by day. She could not find a solution.
He just keeps comparing her to Sadhana saying, "Be bold like her. Be confident like her. Have self-respect like her. Take stand for yourself just like her. Groom your personality so that when people see you they say look she is Deepak's wife."
After a few years of humiliation and praying, Deepak lost his job due to bad performance at work. He blamed it on Kusum saying that she does not worship God enough. His younger sister also supported him, who was unmarried at that time. It pinched Kusum's heart. But she was happy.
They came back to their home town. After a few months, Deepak got a job in another city. So, they shifted there. Their son started going to school. Life was going on.
But Deepak's gaslighting was on. His shouting was regular. Now that the kid was growing and started understanding everything, Kusum made her some sense that this will affect their son's growth. He calmed himself a bit after this. But just a little bit.
Now, he started forcing her to do a job. He can't feed him for free. She needs to earn and support him financially. But none of this he said was positive. He was discouraging her.
"You are good for nothing. Just eating and resting the whole day. Living stressfree. Living shamelessly. Living without self-confidence. Eating my earnings for free. Why don't you get up and start earing? All of the house chores can be done by the maid. You can not stand for yourself. Look at her, her, and her."
She was hurt, as when it was convenient for them, they made her quit her semi-government lecturership. And now, when it is convenient he is asking, rather forcing her to get a job.
