Kusum means Flower. She truly was fragile like a flower. Shy, introvert, emotional, and good in studies. She was very attached to her mother. She never went anywhere without her mother.
When it was the last day of school, of 12th standard; she and her friends cried a lot.
In villages, they don't let their daughters go out alone, due to their safety issues. It made her coward, it drew her confidence level to the point that she always wanted her mother to be with her to protect her.

And maybe it was her nature also, her introvert nature lowered her confidence down. She was afraid of all the animals in the world.
She had a sister and a brother. They, unlike her, were not so introverted. So, she was always compared by relatives.
After 12th board exams, her father purchased a scooty(activa) for her. A neighbour, Preeti, trained her for a month. She learned how to drive a scooty but didn't dare to drive it alone on the road. She had no confidence in herself. When she refused to drive it, her father sell it and arranged a rickshaw for her to go to the college daily.

It was the first day of college, it was a Girls' College. She was afraid and sad. She was feeling lonely. She came home and cried a lot in private. After a month or so, she made friends. Life was OK by now. She started enjoying college life.

In the next semester, 2 girls from her village got admission in her college. Now, she got her company. They used to be together wherever they go. Especially from college to home and home to college. Now they were three friends. This time was good for her.

It wasn't a metro city that she lived in, but just a small city. Some girls used to go to nearby places for an outing, after college or bunking college, like golgappa eating, dosa eating, or market for shopping, but Kusum never had any such outing. She feared her father or any relatives to see her there, doing a party with friends. So, now her graduation is completed.

Now she got admission to post-graduation in the same college. It was the starting of some good years of her life.
She had won the title of Miss Freshers. She got a bouquet and a big, pink teddy bear. She was very happy. She got famous in her college.
Then in the very first semester of the PG, she had secured 4th position in the University. She was head over heels. It was something she has never imagined for and maybe even never prayed for. She studied very hard. She had her pictures in all of the local newspapers.
She is more famous than she ever was.
